The Institute is comprised of several

theory of market economy; finance and credit relations;
problems of regional economy; structural transformation
and investments; economic problems of scientific and
technological progress; market assimilation of
enterprises; problems of social protection;
macroeconomic forecasting; employment and manpower
market; national productive forces; price formation and
market balance; problems of state management of the
economy; problems of paid nature management.
Priority trends in the activity of
the Institute are as follows: theory and methodology of
transition to market economy, problems of macroeconomic
transformations; market problems of regional economy;
problems of in-kind payment management.

- Institute of Philosophy
Founded in November 1991 on the basis of the
Institute of Philosophy and Law under the Academy of
Sciences of Kazakhstan which - in its turn - was
founded in 1958 with the seat in Almaty.
The departments constituting the
Institute are engaged in the following fields:
dialectics and theory of cognition; philosophy of
natural history and technique; philosophical problems of
man's social creative activity; Al-Farabi study and
Kazakh philosophy, ethics and aesthetics, philosophy of
politics and culture.
The Institute is actually the main
scientific, research and co-ordinating centre of the
Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of fundamental and
applied research into philosophy and sociology of
inter-ethnic relations.
Major research problems of the
Institute are as follows: philosophic studies of
fundamental problems of social development and spiritual
culture; dialectics and theory of cognition; logic in
methods of science and social activity; history of
culture and spiritual legacy of the Kazakh nation;
ethnocultural and social problems; inter-ethnic problems
of inter-ethnic communication; world-outlook issues of
forming a personality, and others.

Chokan Valikhanov
Institute of History and Ethnology
It was founded in 1945 on the basis of the
Institute of History, Language and Literature. In
1991 the institution was transformed into the
Ch.Valikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology
with the seat in Almaty.
Departments that function within the
framework of the Institute deal with the following
problems: ethnic anthropology; methodology of history
and historiography of Kazakhstan; ancient and medieval
history of Kazakhstan; new history of Kazakhstan;
ethnology; historical demography; socio-economic and
political problems of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
history of Kazakhstan of the Soviet period.
Pertaining to the Institute are also
the Archives of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic.
The Institute is virtually a leading
scientific and research centre of the historic science
in Kazakhstan.
Essential content of its activities
consists in an in-depth comprehensive elaboration of
fundamental studies in the history, anthropology and
ethnology of the Kazakh nation. Just as topical for
research are issues of historiography, historical
demography, history of culture and science,
ethnosociology.

of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan and 28

Institute of State and
Law
Founded in 1961 with the seat in Almaty.
Following are the departments that
constitute the Institute: those of History of State and
Law of Kazakhstan, theoretical problems of Law; problems
of constitutional Law; civic-and legal relations;
international relations and judicial Law.
Within the staff of the Institute are
2 Academicians, 3 Corresponding Members of the Academy
of Sciences of the Republic, 7 Doctors and 17 Candidates
of Sciences.
- A.Kh. Margulan Institute
of Archeology
Founded in September 1991 on the basis of the
Archeological Centre under the Chokan Valikhanov
Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography
with the seat in Almaty.
The corresponding departments thereof
are envolved in the following problems: medieval
archeology; primeval archeology; archeological
technology and a museum of archeology.
Active at the Institute of Archeology
is 1 Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of
the Republic, 5 Doctors and 12 Candidates of Sciences.
- M.O. Auezov Institute of
Literature and Arts
It is founded in 1961 on the basis of the Institute
of Language and Literature under the Academy of
Sciences of Kazakhstan with the seat in Almaty.
Thirteen is the number of departments
functioning at the Institute: those of modern Kazakh
literature; theory of literature and methodology of
literature studies; Kazakh folklore; history of the
Kazakh literature; Russian literature and corresponding
interrelations; study of M.O.Auezov's literary legacy;
musical art; modern folk arts; textological studies;
publication and scientific research; study of Abay's
literary legacy; storage, systematization and scientific
description.
Within the staff of the Institute
there work 2 Academicians and 4 Corresponding Members of
the Academy of Sciences of the Republic, 14 Doctors and
29 Candidates of Sciences.

A. Baitursynov Institute
of Linguistics

Founded in 1961 on the basis of linguistic
departments of the Institute of Language and
Literature with the seat in Almaty.
It is engaged in elaboration of
topical problems of Kazakh linguistics and Turkology.
Following are the departments
functioning at the Institute: those of Grammar,
Phonetics; Onomastics and Terminology; Ethno
linguistics; Culture of Speech; History of the Kazakh
language and dialectology; Applied linguistics.

Institute.
- Institute of Oriental
Studies
Founded on the basis of both the Institute of Uigur
Studies and the Centre for Oriental Studies in
November 1996 with the seat in Almaty.
It comprises 8 departments: those of
Turkology, history and culture of the Orient; study of
social-and- political problems; Korean studies with
sections of Iranian and Chinese studies; ethnology and
arts, history and source study; linguistics; study of
literature.
Major trends in the activities of the
Institute consist of the following: studies of
international, political relations maintained between
Kazakhstan and the countries of the Orient, history of
diplomatic relations, interaction of cultures of various
nations and their impact on ethnic processes; problems
of social, economic and political development of the
countries, comparability of the above specific nature
with current processes in post-Soviet Central Asia and
Kazakhstan; problems of comparative Oriental
linguistics; development of the Uigur language and
literature within the framework of spiritual values of
Turkic nations; social and cultural processes ongoing in
the Xinjang-Uigur Autonomous Region (the People's
Republic of China) within the context of further
extension of Kazakhstani-Chinese relations. The
Institute's staff includes 9 Doctors and 37 Candidates
of Sciences.

Scientific and Cultural
Centre "Auezov's House"
Since 1963 the entity was functioning as a
literary memorial House of M. Auezov and as a
separate department under the M.O. Auezov Institute
of Literature and Art.
In 1996 it was transformed into a
Scientific and Cultural Centre " Mukhtar Auezov' House".
The Centre is a scientific-research and
cultural-and-instructive institution as well as a
state-owned depository of literary memorial monuments of
the museum (memorial) fund of the Republic of
Kazakhstan.
Essential activity of the Centre
centers around studying and popularizing M.O. Auezov's
creative legacy. The Centre has issued collections of
M.O.Auezov's works in 12 and 20 volumes in the Kazakh
and in 5 volumes - in the Russian languages.

in Almaty numbers 5 Candidates of Sciences.
